The Election Commission (EC) has confirmed that the identities of 200 new senators will be unveiled at 5pm today. 2,989 candidates showed up for the national level of the senatorial selection process, according to EC chair Itthiporn Boonpracong.

Itthiporn explained that the election officials will initially explain the voting process to the candidates, which should take 20-30 minutes. Then, the first round of voting will commence, to select 40 people from each of the 20 eligible background groups, which should take about two and a half hours.

Once the first round of voting is complete, the second round, in which candidates have to select from those outside of their own background group, takes place. This round of voting will commence at 2pm and should also take about two and a half hours, finishing at 4-4.30pm.
