The Criminal Court sentenced a Move Forward MP from Chachoengsao province today to a suspended one-year jail term and a fine of Bt500,000 for defaming a former high-ranking military officer two years ago.

The Court sentenced Jirat Thongsuwan for what he said during a parliamentary session, when he accused Air Chief Marshal Thares Punsri, then deputy permanent secretary for defence, of corruption in the procurement of aircraft and other equipment in 2022.

While the jail term has been suspended, Jirat was ordered to pay Thares Bt500,000 and to publish apologies in three newspapers for five consecutive days.

The public learned about the sentencing after Jirat posted the details on his Facebook page.
